Home Energy Score API

Our Service

Welcome to the Home Energy Scoring Tool Application Programming Interface Portal

With U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) approval, users can employ these application programming interfaces (APIs) to embed the Home Energy Scoring Tool, or HEScore, methodology into a customized interface. The APIs are only for those who want to integrate HEScore functionality into a different software tool beyond its current online form. If the DOE-provided version of the user interface is adequate, it can be accessed via this link.

DOE maintains a directory of certified assessors with appointed login credentials. Any third-party implementations of HEScore must use this login system.

DOE Approval Process

Third-party user interfaces designed to generate an official HEScore must use the HEScore APIs and be approved by DOE. Standards regarding requirements for software inputs to the HEScore APIs are forthcoming. These standards will include a quality assurance process using standardized tests to validate that data entered into the third-party interface are properly converted to entries that produce the expected results from the HEScore APIs. Adherence to the official visual design and content of the label itself, as specified by DOE, also is required. Developers can begin with an Evaluation License, which generates an unofficial watermarked label for testing purposes. Once all requirements are met, permission to use the Production URL will be granted. Please email assessor@ee.doe.gov if you would like more information.
